Self Government
1st October 1923, Southern Rhodesia became a Self Government. On 1st October 1924 Northern Rhodesia (formerly NW & N.E. Rhodesia) attained Colonial Rule by the British Government. |

The Break Up
After the break up of the Federation, each country retained its old name for a short period.
Nyasaland became independent and was renamed Malawi in July 1964. Northern Rhodesia, after Independence, became Zambia in October 1964. |
